Metropolitan Ministries is asking the public for financial and volunteer support after a break-in at its West Shore holiday tent site in Tampa resulted in an estimated $50,000 loss. The organization, which operates in the Tampa Bay area, stated that the theft occurred at the Hillsborough location where supplies for its annual outreach program were stored.

According to officials, thieves took aluminum from the pipe and drape structures along with several other items. The organization reported that the stolen materials were intended for all four of its holiday tents, which are located in Hillsborough, East Pasco, West Pasco, and Pinellas counties. A police report has been filed, and the charity is cooperating with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation.

Dr. Sarah Combs, President and CEO of Metropolitan Ministries, addressed the incident in a statement released on Monday. "While this is an unexpected setback, our focus remains on the families who are counting on us this holiday season," Combs said. She noted that for 54 years, the community has supported the organization's mission to bring hope to neighbors. Combs invited those who can to help replace the materials so the tents can open on time.

The holiday tents serve as a primary resource for the organization during the winter months. Officials said the program is designed to assist more than 30,000 Bay Area families and children. The initiative provides holiday meals, practical support, and general care to residents facing financial strain during the season. The break-in adds an unanticipated expense at a time when resources are strictly allocated for these services.

Metropolitan Ministries is currently working with its vendors to source replacement parts. The organization stated that the necessary components are available for purchase. The goal is to complete the installations before the official opening of the tents to ensure families can access the services without delay.

Those wishing to assist can make donations, sign up to volunteer for a shift at a holiday tent, or host a food drive. Donations can be made online at www.metromin.org/tent. Individuals interested in volunteering can register at www.metromin.org/volunteer. Additional details on how to host a food drive are available at www.metromin.org/ways-to-give.

The organization emphasized that the community's support has been a foundation of its work over the past five decades. The charity remains committed to welcoming families with care and dignity as it prepares for the upcoming holiday season.
