Residents in Seminole Heights will have the chance to eat and drink for free this Friday to help a local restaurant recover from a fire.
Spaddy's Coffee Co. at 5206 N. Florida Ave. will host the event from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Nov. 6. The fundraiser supports Rene's Mexican Kitchen, which suffered heavy damage last month due to a circuit breaker issue.
Owner Rene Valenzuela is working to reopen the V.M. taco spot. He has a GoFundMe campaign that has raised a little over half of its $20,000 goal.
The event features contributions from 17 local businesses. Mise en Place will serve New American food, while Station House BBQ provides barbecue. Super Natural will bring its famous donuts, and Boozy Pig will offer Italian sausages.
Happy Fish will serve Peruvian food, and Burger Spot will provide sliders. Retro House will contribute Chinese food, and Asados Al Carbon will offer Colombian dishes. Gaston Catering will serve American food, and Niaddi will provide flan and Cuban flan.
Chef Stuart Morton will also bring American food, and Street Light Tacos will serve Mexican food. Rene's Mexican Kitchen itself will be present to serve its own tacos. Saucin Wings will provide wings, and Spaddy's Coffee will serve coffee drinks.
Grand Cathedral Cigar will serve palomas, and Magnanimous Brewing will supply beer. Organizers encourage attendees to donate to the tip jar, and all food and drinks are free.
